A new flocculation model within the 3D simulation software SSIM (open source) was developed at the IWG which is based on the approach of McAnally (2000). It allows the explicit modeling of aggregation and disaggregation processes of very finely particulate solids and therefore contributes significantly to the improved system description of the relevant storage and transformation processes in aquifers (eingestaute Wasserkörper).
Key activities within the project:
- Numerical modeling of highly turbulent river water flow in the storage space (Stauraum).
- Simulation of complex sinking processes of fine drifting particles.
- Development and optimization of existing model approaches for fine sediment modeling.
- Modeling of the essential water quality parameters for the reservoirs.
- Determination of the necessary complexity of the model by means of reduced data availability or of substitute remote sensing data.
